All of our students will experience arts integration in their classrooms this school year through the Overture Center for the Arts Artist in Residency Program. The six week program includes a field trip to the Overture Center to see a performance and then six sessions with a teaching artist in their classroom integrating various art forms into their social studies, language arts or Spanish classes.
Our 7th and 8th grade residencies have just finished. The students went to the UW Band’s performance at the Overture center and then studied the history of various music genres and how music has brought people and cultures together throughout history. Their final project was to write their own AAB pattern verse, a music pattern that is common in the blues. Their verses celebrated each students unique traits and helped students to get to know one another better.
Our 5K through 3rd grade classes and our 4th through 6th grade classes will begin their programs in mid-March and will see Havana Hop and Paige in Full: A B Girls Visual Mix Tape.
This opportunity is possible thanks to a generous grant provided to our school by a benefactor.
