4th Graders Study the Rock Cycle

Students made a game out of the 11 cycles and then modeled part of the rock cycle by forming layers of various sediments, plants and animals.  Then, using Starbursts candy, they represented the different types of rocks within the rock cycle! First, we turned 3 starburst (sediments) into sedimentary rocks by applying pressure with standing on textbooks. Then, using hot water and more pressure, we changed our sedimentary rocks into Metamorphic rocks. Lastly, using heat from the microwave, the starburst melted, forming magma that hardened into igneous rocks.
